Welcome!
I am Amanda J Harrington, a professional tutor of many years and a published writer of fiction and non-fiction.
My English Literature tuition brings together my own love of literature, my experience tutoring students of all ages and abilities, methods I have developed and refined with hundreds of students and a continued focus on educational enrichment.
I help students to look deeply into English Literature without ever losing sight of the fact that all books, stories, plays and poems are written for an audience. However much we pick apart a text, we must remember to appreciate it as a reader, just as the original writer intended.
My English Literature tuition is for all ages, but because of how often my students are working towards GCSE or 11+, I have focused more on these on the Tuition page. Please do get in touch if you would like information on my enrichment work, rather than studying for tests or exams.
This is a partner site to The Creative Writing Tutor, which specifically showcases my creative writing for all ages, including more information about my specialist 11+ tuition.

SOCIETY OF TUTORS
I am a founding member of the Society of Tutors. We are a group of highly-experienced tutors who share a drive to improve the quality of private tuition available to students in a very busy marketplace.
The Society is not an agency and exists to connect students from around the world with independent, high-quality education professionals.

Waiting List & Fees
I have a few new slots available now the GCSEs are underway. Once these slots are taken, I will be reverting to my waiting list. Please get in touch if you would like to book a trial lesson or secure a regular slot.
Given my experience and specialist knowledge, my fees are high. I may offer a reduction in certain circumstances. All lessons are paid for monthly in advance.
As a former home educator, I do offer discounts for home educated students who can take lessons during the day.
Testimonials
"Amanda is a fantastic tutor and her help enabled my daughter to obtain grade 5’s in both language and literature in her GCSEs today. Amanda suspected my daughter had a processing delay problem, something her school had failed to notice. Without Amanda’s help my daughter would not have passed these exams and we cannot thank her enough"
"So helpful and really easy to get along with! Catered to my individual learning needs taking into consideration that I’m a kinaesthetic learner. Recommend to anyone who is looking for a tutor!"
"Lovely tutor. Creates a very relaxed atmosphere for learning."
"Amanda tutored my son, with additional SEN. She was patient and adapted her approach to help him. He enjoyed their sessions together. Definitely recommend."
